Commendation to Trek for its efforts in environmental sustainability in 2021 and its pioneering and innovative sustainability report
Trek became the first bicycle company to complete a comprehensive verification of carbon emissions in 2021, and shared the results in its sustainability report. This report is the first of its kind in the cycling industry and is changing the way people view bike companies. The report outlines ten key sustainability efforts to reduce carbon emissions and where Trek is investing to do so. These include reducing the use of air freight, consolidating shipments to retailers, increasing the use of renewable energy, reducing business travel, increasing the use of alternative materials, achieving zero waste from manufacturing facilities to landfill, establishing and protecting new bicycle lanes, and avoiding waste in packaging. use plastics, increase the use of shared bikes, shift the share of riding modes, and build and protect new trails.
In addition, Trek launched the Trek Foundation to protect soil erosion and develop a new trail network for public use. 2021 also marks the second anniversary of Trek’s GoByBike cycling campaign, which encouraged hundreds of sports enthusiasts to choose cycling instead of traveling in cars. Trek has also expanded its bicycle sharing program BCycle to more cities outside the United States, providing more people with opportunities for green travel.
In 2022, Trek will release the second edition of its annual sustainability report, detailing Trek's progress in achieving long-term goals and a series of new initiatives the company has taken to reduce its impact on the environment. Trek will also expand the Trek Foundation to protect more land and develop new trails for public use.
