6 Tips for Helmet Safety and Maintenance
Even if you have a good helmet, you still need to use it correctly. The Consumer Council has listed 6 key points for safety and maintenance of helmets. If these problems occur with the helmet, stop using it!
(i) Before wearing, check the helmet for cracks, dents or other abnormalities, such as aging and peeling of the rubber. If found, it should not be used.
(ii) The helmet should be replaced after a collision, even if it is not obviously damaged.
(iii) When worn, the helmet should not be tilted backwards, and the bottom edge should preferably be no more than two finger widths from the eyebrows, otherwise it will not protect the user's forehead; nor should it be tilted forward to avoid obstructing the wearer's vision.
(iv) The two sides of the strap should be adjusted to only cover the ear flaps, the strap should be tightly buckled under the chin, and the length should be adjusted to only accommodate two fingers.
(v) The helmet will be stained with sweat and grease after use. The helmet should be cleaned according to the instructions. The dirt can be wiped off with a damp cloth and placed in a cool place to dry. It should not be dried in the sun for a long time to avoid accelerating the aging of the helmet rubber; when storing It should be wrapped in a packaging box to avoid being pressed by heavy objects, which will affect the protection ability.
(vi) The service life of helmets is generally 3 to 5 years. If the helmet is used for a long time, the aging of the rubber will reduce the protective ability of the helmet. Consumers can refer to the recommendations in the manual to replace it in a timely manner.
